In Egypt, the Ministry of Health and Population has announced the results of monitoring conducted through the automated system for registering births and deaths, which has been rolled out across more than 5,000 healthcare facilities. The data indicate a continued positive trend toward a decline in the number of births between 2018 and 2025.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population stated that 2025 recorded a decrease in births in most of the country’s governorates, with the exception of just nine governorates, which saw modest increases ranging between 0.3% and 5% compared with 2024.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Health and Population confirmed that Egypt’s population growth reached approximately 1.34 million people over the course of 2025.
The minister added that the data also revealed the persistence of the high rate of cesarean deliveries, which accounted for nearly 80% of all births nationwide in 2025. The highest proportions were recorded in the governorates of Kafr El-Sheikh, Port Said, and Gharbia, where rates exceeded 90%, while the lowest were observed in Matrouh and South Sinai, at under 60%.
