Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements during a telephone conversation Sunday, stressing the need for urgent action to ease tensions between Iran and Israel.
The Turkish presidency stated that “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump discussed the situation in the Middle East, bilateral relations, and regional issues during a telephone conversation on Sunday.”
It added: “President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed Trump’s recent statements regarding the end of the Israeli-Iranian conflict, stressing the need for urgent action to prevent an escalation of the situation in the region.” Turkish President Erdoğan stressed that “diplomacy is the only way to resolve the nuclear conflict,” expressing “Ankara’s willingness to do everything possible, including facilitating negotiations.”
Erdoğan stated that “Israeli attacks against Iran have caused economic and civilian damage to both sides,” emphasizing “the need to end this dangerous escalation.”
Earlier today, US President Donald Trump emphasized the need for Israel and Iran to reach an agreement: “I will reach an agreement between Israel and Iran, as I did with India and Pakistan.”
