Erdogan: Ukraine grain deal expected within 10 days

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Tuesday that a deal on grain exports from Ukraine is anticipated within a week or ten days.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, the two discussed the global food crisis, looking to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the countries in order to mediate the consequences felt by the war in Ukraine. “We must release these supplies as soon as possible,” said the Italian prime minister.

Erdogan clarified that the Black Sea corridor is critical for releasing cereal that has been blocked, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that 22 million tonnes of grain are stranded at Ukrainian ports, with the figure expected to rise to 60 million tonnes by the fall.
