European Union Foreign Affairs and Security Policy High Representative Josep Borrell highlighted on Friday that the bloc is “deeply concerned” regarding Israel’s orders for Khan Younis to be evacuated.
In a joint statement with EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic, Borrell mentioned that these orders not only affect some 250,00 civilians but also threaten the patients of the European Hospital, “one of the few remaining partially functioning hospitals in southern Gaza.”
The EU officials warned that the decision will certainly worsen overcrowding “and cause severe shortages in the already overwhelmed remaining hospitals, at a time when access to emergency medical care is critical.”
