European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano compared on Friday Russia’s recent actions to those of Nazi Germany. Answering a question on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aim in invading Ukraine, Stano said that Putin is “talking about ‘de-nazifying’ Ukraine, but he behaves like Nazis.”
Stano added the European Union is responding to “concrete violations of international law” with efforts targeting avoiding “the worst-case scenario” in order to protect Ukraine’s independence. He said the latest sanctions package is aimed at “crippling the ability of the regime in Kremlin to finance their brutal, aggressive war” and asserted the measures will achieve this goal.
