Expected Weather Fluctuations: Civil Protection Issues Warning

The Civil Protection Authority issued a warning today, Thursday, January 16, 2025, in light of weather forecasts predicting heavy thunderstorms with rain up to 80mm in some regions. The authority advised citizens to stay away from riverbanks and areas prone to flooding, urging them to avoid approaching locations that may experience strong water flows, particularly near rivers and water facilities. It also cautioned against crossing rivers, as it could lead to serious accidents.

The Civil Protection Authority recommended moving to higher, safer ground, especially for those living in low-lying areas or mobile houses such as tents and makeshift shelters. It also advised checking the readiness of rainwater drainage systems around homes and businesses to prevent water accumulation or leakage into buildings. Additionally, citizens were urged to secure objects that could be blown away by strong winds, such as billboards and signs, to avoid injuries.

The authority also cautioned against touching electrical poles, especially during and after rainfall, to prevent the risk of electric shock. It further advised against parking vehicles under trees during strong winds and thunderstorms, as falling branches or uprooted trees could cause significant damage to vehicles and pose a risk to public safety.

The Civil Protection Authority encouraged everyone to follow weather updates through media channels and heed the recommendations of relevant authorities. In case of emergency, citizens were advised to contact Civil Protection at the emergency number 198.
