Speaking with Tunisie Numérique, President of the National Chamber of Coffee Shop Owners, Fawzi Hannafi confirmed today that following a meeting of café owners, an official rise of 200 millimes has been decided for coffee prices at small and popular cafés (“cafeterias”). Nevertheless, prices for tea rooms will remain unregulated.
He clarified that today’s meeting examined the impact of the increase in the wholesale price of coffee, which has increased to 15 dinars per kilogram, on professionals in the industry. As a result, the price hike was set at 200 millimes, while prices remain flexible according to the Competition Law. Hannafi also explained that tea room owners did not request a price increase.
Concerning the ongoing shortage in coffee supplies, Hannafi stated that it is still unresolved. Nevertheless, according to promises from the Ministry of Trade following a meeting with the National Chamber of Coffee Shop Owners, sufficient supplies are expected in the coming days.
