American sponsor and principal backer of Club Africain, Fergie Chambers, has issued a statement on his Facebook page asserting that he does not recognize any action, decision, or declaration made in the club’s name without prior consultation with the team he personally appointed.
Below is the translated statement:
At the moment, I’m barely sleeping; we are tirelessly assessing what must be done to restore the club—not just to a functional state, but to one of prosperity and stability.
There is no point in injecting just enough money to prolong the club’s agony for another year, nor in spending enormous sums without undertaking a deep structural transformation.
To my knowledge, no one seems willing to dedicate even a fraction of the energy or resources required to achieve this goal.
The current board has resigned, and no elections can be held before June 12 at the earliest.
This is why I must publicly declare, as a supporter, that I am effectively assuming interim management and have been called upon to address the financial crisis until elections are held. I do not recognize any action, decision, or statement made in the name of the club without prior consultation with our team.
This team includes:
-
Mohamed Sahli, responsible for the technical aspect, along with anyone he chooses to involve in preparing for the upcoming football season.
-
The two heads of the remaining sections—basketball and women’s handball—both of which are currently contending for titles.
-
My Tunisian and American advisory groups, composed of both internal and external members of the club: accountants, technical experts, supporters, and true loyalists.
As I have stated before, everything will change once elections are held, and all stakeholders will be consulted at that time.
I would never have dared to take on such a role without the overwhelming trust placed in me by the supporters, nor without the symbolic gesture of the outgoing board, who handed me the keys upon their departure.
