Slim Salem, president of the Finance Committee within the National Council of Regions and Provinces, told Tunisienumerique that nearly 30 proposals had been submitted to the committee’s bureau to be forwarded to the plenary session as part of the review of the 2026 Finance Bill.
He added that these proposals will be examined today during a meeting of the committee.
Most contentious articles already settled in Parliament
Commenting on yesterday’s plenary session at the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, Slim Salem noted that most of the contentious articles debated within the committee between the two chambers were ultimately adopted by MPs.
He stated: “Our colleagues in Parliament passed most of the articles we thought would be problematic…”
A joint session between both chambers likely
According to the head of the Finance Committee, a joint session between the two chambers will likely be unavoidable, given the presence of additional proposals submitted by members of the National Council of Regions and Provinces.
Work unlikely to exceed three days
Slim Salem further indicated that the plenary sessions of the National Council of Regions and Provinces should not exceed two to three days, stressing the determination of all members to meet the constitutional deadline for approving the Finance Act, set for 10 December each year.
These developments mark a decisive stage in the adoption process of the 2026 budget as both chambers continue their final examination of the bill.
