The waters of Oued Dzirra swept away, on Sunday evening, a woman born in 1969, identified as Khadija Laâtoui, a resident of Sidi Abid in the Bou Salem delegation. She was tending her flock of sheep in the Nfidha area of Dzirra (Bou Salem delegation) when the incident occurred.
Civil protection teams have yet to locate the victim, according to representatives of local and regional authorities present at the scene, as well as eyewitnesses.
According to the same sources, the region experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday evening over the heights of Mount Kraa in the Tébourba delegation. The floodwaters converged with those of Oued Messilia in the Nfidha area, where the missing woman had been grazing her sheep.
Witnesses reported that the woman had attempted to rescue four of her sheep before being swept away by the fast-moving waters, whose current was unusually strong.
Civil protection officers stated that the rains were sudden and of exceptional intensity, noting that no weather alert had been issued by the National Institute of Meteorology prior to the storm.
The regional governor, Taïeb Dridi, visited the site accompanied by members of the Regional Committee for Disaster Management and Relief Organization to assess the situation.
