Climate expert Adel Hentati sought to reassure the public regarding concerns over the possibility of Tunisia being affected by the deadly floods recently recorded in Morocco, stressing that current meteorological data do not point to a similar scenario.
Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Hentati explained that the severe weather conditions in Morocco were caused by a cold air mass originating from the Atlas Mountains, which led to heavy snowfall and intense rainfall, triggering floods in several regions.
He noted that this cold air mass is currently moving eastward and is expected to first impact certain areas in Algeria, according to forecasts and observations from Algerian meteorological services.
As for Tunisia, the expert indicated that the country may indeed experience some effects from these disturbances, but with significantly lower intensity and risk. The expected impact would mainly involve moderate rainfall accompanied by a drop in temperatures.
Hentati also highlighted that rainfall is forecast in Tunisia during the current week, which could have positive effects, particularly by replenishing dam reserves and supporting the agricultural sector.
He concluded by reassuring that the likelihood of floods similar to those seen in Morocco occurring in Tunisia is almost entirely ruled out, based on current weather data.
