For Gaza: Tunisia on the road to solidarity

A citizen-led caravan named “Resistance to Break the Siege on Gaza” departed from Tunis on Monday, June 9, 2025, heading toward the Ras Jedir border crossing in Ben Guerdane (Medenine governorate), passing through the cities of Sousse, Sfax, and Gabès. The initiative aims to express the Tunisian people’s solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who have been under blockade since 2007.

This collective action is organized by the Coordination of Joint Action for Palestine, which announced the details via its official Facebook page.

A convoy made up of civil society figures

The convoy, which is popular, voluntary, and peaceful, brings together a wide range of participants from Tunisia’s associative, union, professional, and political spheres. Among the participants are lawyers, doctors, journalists, human rights activists, and members of youth organizations.

The caravan is also expected to be joined by Maghreb figures and international delegations along the route. The planned journey will take them through the Libyan coastal road, then to Cairo, and finally to the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

Strong support from major Tunisian organizations

Several national organizations are actively supporting and participating in this initiative, including:

the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT),
the Tunisian League for Human Rights (LTDH),
the National Bar Association,
the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES),
the Young Tunisian Doctors’ Association,
and the Tunisian Medical Chamber.
This institutional support reflects the broad backing the action enjoys across various professional and activist sectors.

Part of an international movement for Gaza

The caravan is part of a broader international solidarity movement aimed at breaking the blockade that has strangled Gaza for the past 18 years. A large peaceful gathering is scheduled for June 15, 2025, at the Rafah border crossing on the Egyptian side, to demand the lifting of the siege and facilitate the entry of urgently needed humanitarian aid.

A powerful message against the blockade and for Palestinian dignity

Through this initiative, Tunisia reaffirms its long-standing support for the Palestinian cause and its rejection of the prolonged blockade on Gaza. This transnational, grassroots mobilization aims to alert the international community to the dire humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave and to advocate for free, safe, and sustained access to humanitarian assistance.

The Tunisian caravan thus sends a strong message of solidarity and stands as a collective voice for justice and dignity for the Palestinian people.
