France detains UK ship as fishing dispute continues

French Minister of the Sea Annick Girardin said on Thursday that French authorities stopped two British fishing vessels, one of which was detained because it did not have a valid license to operate in French waters. “For over nine months, there have been fishermen who cannot access British waters when they could do so before,” Girardin said, adding the United Kingdom “does not respect its obligations” under the deal. She announced the French government will introduce new measures from November 2, including a ban on unloading for British vessels in certain ports, as well as reinforced checks for British ships and trucks
