France expressed concern on Friday over the situation in Iran, stating that it understands the legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people and calling on Iranian authorities to exercise the utmost restraint in their response to ongoing protests.
A French diplomatic source said that Paris is “closely and deeply concerned by developments in Iran,” stressing that France “understands the legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people to freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly.”
The source added that French diplomacy is urging Iranian authorities to respect fundamental rights and avoid excessive use of force, warning that any escalation could further destabilize the internal situation and heighten regional and international tensions.
The French statement comes as Iran continues to witness widespread protests, drawing growing international attention and concern from several Western capitals over the risk of increased violence.
