A Joker screening in Paris plunged into chaos after a man yelling “Allahu akbar” prompted the cinema audience to escape.
The man, who was shouting the Arabic phrase for “God is great”, was arrested by police after the disturbance at the Grand Rex cinema on Sunday 27 October.
People reportedly escalated over seats and other moviegoers to evade screening. The incident was published in French publication Le Parisien, which revealed the 34-year-old man was removed from the Grand Rex cinema and put under psychiatric observation.
According to a witness who spoke to the paper, the man repeatedly shouted “It’s political!”, which brought laughs from the audience at first until the man stood up, put his hands on his chest and “started yelling Allahu akbar”.
