France: This 68-year-old dealer sold cocaine to a 71-year-old user

The scourge of modern times, it seems, impacts individuals of all ages, not just the young. In a recent case in Biarritz, the local police arrested two elderly men implicated in drug trafficking. One, aged 68, was caught selling cocaine to the other, a 71-year-old. The incident occurred on August 15, 2024, in the Les Halles district, according to the newspaper Sud-Ouest.

The dealer, well-versed in his trade, had a substantial cache of drugs at his home, including cocaine, ecstasy, 50 grams of herbal cannabis, MDMA, and 1,000 euros in cash. “A major case indeed,” commented Divisional Commissioner Vincent Laberaine on France Bleu.

This unusual case is not isolated. In Caen, a 75-year-old man was convicted to five years in prison in 2023 for running a major drug operation within a retirement home. This septuagenarian, a resident of the EHPAD (Accommodation Establishment for Dependent Elderly People), was already known to the police. During a search, authorities discovered 500 grams of cannabis resin hidden in a laundry basket and 38 grams of cocaine concealed in the electrical panel.
