French Actress Adèle Haenel in Tunisia to Join the “Global Resilience” Fleet

French actress Adèle Haenel announced that she will sail from Tunisia to the Gaza Strip aboard the “Global Resilience” fleet to send a message of solidarity and humanity to the Palestinians in the besieged territory. Speaking to AFP on Friday, September 5, 2025, Haenel said: “At this critical historical moment, I decided to board one of the ships of the Global Resilience fleet’s humanitarian mission.”

The fleet is scheduled to depart on Sunday, after being delayed due to weather conditions and the delayed departure of the fleet from Barcelona. Activists from Tunisia will join the mission at sea.

The mission’s goal, according to Haenel, is to provide food and medicine to the people of Gaza, who are suffering from famine deliberately caused by the Israeli government. “Our goal is to help the people of Gaza, who are victims of the deprivation policy imposed by Israel,” she added.

Haenel arrived in Tunisia on Sunday and participated in a two-day training session to prepare for the mission. The actress, known for her role in Portrait of a Lady on Fire, also made headlines in 2020 when she left the César Awards ceremony in protest of Roman Polanski winning Best Director for his film J’accuse, despite multiple allegations of rape and sexual assault against him. Since then, Haenel has distanced herself from the film industry.

“We are united in our desire to act peacefully to open a humanitarian corridor and break the illegal blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza,” Haenel stated.

Among the participants in this international mission are Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, along with European MPs and public figures. Over 100 people from various countries are expected to join the expedition from Tunisia, with the fleet’s ships set to reach Gaza by mid-September to deliver humanitarian aid. This mission follows two failed attempts in July when Israeli authorities blocked efforts to deliver aid.

The mission’s objective is to bypass the Israeli blockade and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the people suffering from a severe lack of basic resources, while demonstrating international solidarity with the Palestinian people.
