It is not only Algeria that will drag Israel before the ICC (International Criminal Court) for its immense and indiscriminate war crimes in Gaza, there is also South Africa (which has almost broken diplomatically with the Hebrew State), Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros and Djibouti. These five countries have formally requested the ICC to investigate the bloody assaults by the Israeli army in the Palestinian strip.
Through a press release issued yesterday, Friday, November 17 on its website, the ICC, domiciled in The Hague, reported that the Office of Prosecutor Karim Khan has received a referral from these five signatory states to the treaty establishing international jurisdiction. “The Prosecutor’s Office confirms that it is currently conducting an inquiry into the situation in the State of Palestine,” the text adds.
The ICC recalls that the investigation in question started on March 3, 2021, and targets the war crimes perpetrated on June 13, 2014 in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The same source specifies that from the start of his mandate, in June 2021, prosecutor Karim Khan set up for the first time a cell devoted to the situation in Palestine. And all the crimes committed have since been carefully recorded.
“The Prosecutor’s Office has collected a substantial volume of information,” the ICC statement said. This work will continue, in Palestine and Israel, with survivors, non-governmental organizations and local actors to gather as much data as possible, always according to the same source.
