Gold Market: After Prices Fall in Tunisia, Is Now the Time to Buy? (Video)

Gold prices have declined from the levels recorded last week, alongside a drop in the international price of an ounce of gold, which fell from $4,308 to $4,185, Wajih Mesfar, president of the Sfax Chamber of Jewellery Artisans, told Tunisie Numérique.

According to Wajih Mesfar, the decline comes as all surveys and forecasts point to higher gold prices, contrasting with the levels currently being recorded.

Gold Gram Prices Fall in Tunisia

Wajih Mesfar explained that gold prices in Tunisian dinars, which are linked to international prices, have also declined. The price of a gram of new 24-carat gold has fallen to around 399 dinars, a development that is expected to be reflected in gold prices in Tunisia.

For 18-carat gold, the price of a gram of scrap gold stood between 295 and 300 dinars, while the price of new gold ranged from 380 to 450 dinars.

As for 9-carat gold, the price of a gram of scrap gold ranged from 130 to 140 dinars, compared with between 210 and 220 dinars for a gram of new gold.

Regarding silver, Wajih Mesfar said its price had remained stable at $68 on the international market, compared with approximately 6 dinars per gram on the Tunisian market.

An Opportunity to Buy and Save

Commenting on these price levels, Wajih Mesfar said current prices represented an opportunity to buy gold, noting that gold can be considered an investment that also forms part of a family savings strategy.

He also stressed that buying gold does not involve complex administrative procedures.

The remarks come as gold prices, according to data presented by Wajih Mesfar, have declined from the levels recorded last week, alongside the fall in the international price of an ounce of gold.

The market is therefore awaiting further price developments in the coming period, amid the forecasts cited by the official pointing to a possible rebound.
