United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned on Friday Israel’s latest decision to open fire on three positions used by UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.
“Peacekeepers must be protected by all parties of the conflict,” he stressed at a press conference held after the ASEAN summit, underlining that such actions are “intolerable and cannot be repeated.”
Guterres reiterated once more that the potential escalation of the Middle East conflict poses a threat to global security, and cannot be allowed. “We must do all to avoid all-out war in Lebanon,” he remarked.
