United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said there is “total lawlessness” in the Gaza Strip, making the distribution of aid “extremely difficult.” He said most aid trucks coming into the enclave are looted as Israel does not allow local police to escort them due to the police’s links to Hamas.
“We have attacks, we have bombings, and then troops move to other places. Hamas returns to the original ones and there is total chaos in Gaza, and there is no authority in most of the territory,” Guterres said. He insisted on a ceasefire as the only way to guarantee there is a “minimum of law and order” and enable the safe distribution of aid.
