United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday called on Israel, Hamas, and mediator countries to return to negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and slammed Israel for blocking the entrance of humanitarian aid into the enclave.
“Humanitarian aid is not negotiable, it must flow without impediment, the response must be adequately funded and civilians, including humanitarians, must be protected,” Guterres said at the Arab summit on post-war Gaza in Cairo, adding that the UN is ready to assist in reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the war ends.
Additionally, the UN head insisted that there is “no sustainable future for Gaza that is not part of a viable Palestinian state” without reduction of its territory or displacement of its population.
