On this Friday, June 6, 2025, coinciding with Eid al-Adha, Muslims performing the Hajj continue the sacred rituals at the heart of Islam’s holy sites. After spending the night in Muzdalifah, pilgrims began converging at dawn on Mina, where they performed the stoning of the large pillar at Jamrat al-Aqaba, a symbolic act representing the rejection of evil.
Sacrifice and purification: a central moment of the pilgrimage
Following the stoning ritual, the faithful proceed with the ritual animal sacrifice (al-hady), one of the essential acts of the Hajj. This is followed by either complete shaving of the head or trimming of the hair, marking a spiritual purification and transition to a new stage of the pilgrimage.
On to Mecca for the Tawaf Al-Ifadha
Pilgrims then head to the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to perform the Tawaf al-Ifadha, which consists of seven circumambulations around the Kaaba, carried out in an atmosphere of deep devotion.
After the Tawaf, they continue with the sa’i, the ritual walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah, commemorating Hajar’s search for water for her son Ishmael.
Massive attendance and tight organization
Since the early hours of the morning, thousands of pilgrims have flocked to the Grand Mosque to complete the rites of the Eid day. The Saudi authorities have deployed significant logistical and security resources to ensure that the rituals are performed in a calm, safe, and spiritually fulfilling environment.
A Hajj marked by faith and unity
This powerful moment of Hajj 2025 illustrates the deep spiritual meaning of Islam’s fifth pillar, symbolizing unity, faith, and sacrifice, and bringing together Muslims from all over the world to experience one of the most important acts of worship in their lives.
