The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced financial assistance exceeding $1 million to support reconstruction efforts in Jamaica and Haiti, following the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Melissa in October.
The total amount of the donation stands at $1.1 million, with $600,000 allocated to Jamaica and $500,000 to Haiti. The support was formalized through letters of solidarity sent to the respective governments by Afreximbank President Dr. George Elombi.
According to the pan-African financial institution, the contribution aims to help restore damaged infrastructure and mitigate the economic and social impacts of the natural disaster, amid growing vulnerability to extreme weather events.
