The Israeli air base of Nevatim, located in the Negev desert, suffered “notable damage” following an Iranian missile attack, according to the Israeli newspaper Maariv. Satellite images have confirmed the extent of the damage, showing damage on the roofs of a row of buildings located near the main track of the base, reports the American news agency Associated Press.
Maariv underscores that the attack caused significant damage that could impact the air defence capacity of Israel. Nevatim’s basis is house to some of the most advanced military technologies in the Israeli Air Force, including the F-35 Lightning II, manufactured in the United States.
The satellite images analyzed by the Associated Press show a large hole in one of the hangars of the air base, with pieces of debris scattered around the building.
Nevertheless, it is not yet clear if planes were present in this hangar at the time of the attack. The Israeli army has not yet commented on satellite images, leaving the question of the exact magnitude of the damage suffered by the air fleet.
