Israeli Airstrikes Hit Gaza Behind the “Yellow Line” as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Israeli occupation forces carried out a new wave of airstrikes early Monday, accompanied by demolition operations, heavy artillery fire, and intense shooting, targeting several areas located behind what is now known as the “yellow line” in the Gaza Strip.

According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent, Israeli warplanes launched three consecutive airstrikes on the eastern outskirts of Khan Younis in the southern part of the territory, while tanks simultaneously opened heavy fire and artillery units shelled the area.

The correspondent also reported that Israeli forces detonated several buildings located behind the yellow line in the Al-Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, as part of an ongoing campaign of large-scale destruction.

    Destruction Continues Despite Ceasefire Agreement

Since the ceasefire agreement entered into effect on October 10, Israeli forces have continued to demolish and destroy what remains of buildings behind the yellow line — a systematic violation of the declared cessation of hostilities and a continuation of widespread devastation across eastern neighborhoods.

UNICEF Warns of Escalating Health and Living Conditions

On the humanitarian front, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) issued a stark warning about rapidly deteriorating health and living conditions in Gaza, stressing that children are increasingly exposed to disease amid extremely harsh displacement conditions.

The organization noted that thousands of families are living in makeshift tents unable to withstand heavy rain and freezing temperatures. Meanwhile, humanitarian aid shipments prepared by UNICEF remain blocked outside the Gaza Strip, awaiting Israeli approval to enter.

Severe Weather Aggravates the Suffering of Displaced Families

Displaced Palestinians continue to endure catastrophic living conditions, with basic necessities — clean water, sanitation, heating, and adequate shelter — largely absent from tented camps. Israeli authorities also continue to prevent the entry of prefabricated homes and essential materials needed to build proper shelters.

The situation has worsened further due to the recent winter storm that hit Gaza, especially in the coastal Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, home to the largest concentration of displaced people. Many tents have flooded, leaving families exposed to cold, illness, and a lack of food and medical services.
