The Japanese government and its incumbent ruling bloc are arranging to convene a special parliamentary session on November 11 to vote on the Prime Minister post, Kyodo reported on Monday.
During the weekend, voters stripped the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of its lower house majority for the first time since 2009. Japan’s incumbent Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba vowed to remain in office and said he was not contemplating a broader coalition. If a new leader is chosen, Ishiba’s tenure as prime minister will be the shortest since World War II.
