Jordanian authorities have successfully foiled a sabotage plot involving the manufacture of rockets and drones, leading to the arrest of 16 individuals. The General Intelligence Department (GID) reported that the suspects had been under surveillance since 2021 and were planning to target national security and sow chaos within the kingdom. The authorities seized explosives, firearms, and equipment for rocket and drone production during the operation.
The detained individuals were reportedly affiliated with an “unlicensed and dissolved group,” with some confessions aired on state television indicating recruitment by the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist organisation that has been officially dissolved in Jordan. The GID identified Ibrahim Mohammed as the main defendant, who allegedly facilitated the travel of two group members to Lebanon in 2021 to meet with the cell leader in Beirut, where they received training.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam voiced “full solidarity” with Jordan in a phone call with his Jordanian counterpart, Jafar Hassan, according to Lebanon’s official National News Agency.
This operation adds to a series of security challenges faced by Jordan in recent years, including thwarted plots linked to Iran-backed groups and escalating regional tensions.
