“K” Virus Spreads: Who’s Most at Risk and How to Avoid It? [Video]

The Regional Director of Health in Sfax, Dr Hatem Cherif, said the new “K” virus is a variant of seasonal influenza. He stressed that, in most cases, it is an “ordinary” variant that does not generally cause severe illness.

    Higher risk for vulnerable groups

While seeking to reassure the public, the health official noted that this variant may still be more harmful for certain groups, particularly older adults and people with chronic diseases, who are more exposed to complications.

Vaccination: a prevention message, even at this time of year

Dr Cherif emphasized that vaccination remains useful and effective, even at this time of year. He advised getting vaccinated, especially for older people and those living with chronic conditions.

According to the regional health director, vaccination can significantly reduce the impact of the virus and lower the likelihood that an infected person will need hospital care.
