Part of the wall of the Zaafrana Primary School, located in the South Kairouan delegation, collapsed during the night between Sunday and Monday, January 11 and 12, 2026, after a truck skidded and crashed into the school’s perimeter. The incident caused material damage but no human casualties were reported.
Residents of the area and parents of pupils expressed deep concern over the risk of similar accidents occurring again, especially since the school is located along National Road No. 2, which links the delegations of Kairouan and Bouhajla and has witnessed several serious traffic accidents in recent years.
Parents called on the authorities to urgently install speed bumps in front of the school to slow down traffic and enhance the safety of pupils. They also urged the rapid construction of a protective wall at the back of the school and the assignment of a permanent security guard, given the strategic location of the institution and the large number of children attending it.
The Zaafrana Primary School currently hosts 412 pupils and employs 23 teachers, making road safety and the protection of the school environment a pressing priority for local authorities.
