President of the Republic Kais Saied went to the Bou Hertma and Barbar dams in the Jendouba region to see the state of water resources.
During his visit, he observed that these dams were filled with drinking and irrigation water, stressing that prolonged water cuts in this region are strange and suspicious.
The President recalled that, despite years of drought in the past, the situation had never attained the current level of water shortage, which can last more than 24 hours.
In the early hours of July 23, 2024, the President visited the Nebhana dam, in the Kairouan region. This dam, in service since 1969, is now out of use due to lack of maintenance.
The President likewise reported the existence of criminal networks in the region, accountable for the destruction of water distribution pipes.
The same day, the President travelled to Monastir, in the delegation of Menzel Harb, where water cuts intensified, also impacting neighbouring regions. He strongly denounced these planned and intentional water cuts, calling them crimes against the Tunisian people and attacks on national security.
Kais Saied insisted that those who orchestrate and carry out these criminal actions must be held accountable and punished.
Finally, the President moved to Grombalia to examine the flow of water in the Tunisia-Mejerda canal, which was flowing normally.
This observation strengthens the hypothesis that water distribution problems in various regions are the result of deliberate acts by criminal networks targeting water and electricity infrastructure.
President Kais Saied concluded by affirming that the State will not stand idly by in the face of these heinous crimes which deny citizens of their fundamental rights, including access to drinking water.
Kais Saied vowed that severe measures will be taken against those who planned and carried out these acts, to guarantee the safety and well-being of all Tunisians.
