Kaïs Saïed finally breaks silence on 2024 presidential election (Statement)

For the first time, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, talked about the 2024 presidential election during the ceremony he presided over yesterday, Sunday, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the death of the leader Habib Bourguiba.

In response to questions from journalists, the Head of State stressed that it is “necessary to address many truths regarding the attempts to undermine the very existence of the state during the summer of 2024.”

He explained that “the revolution had been reduced to simple procedures related to candidacy for the election, therefore obscuring the real demands that had driven it, under the pretext that it is impossible to prevent a candidate from running unless they have been the subject of a final and irrevocable conviction.”

The president continued: “The case has been reduced to a single criminal record extract No. 3… This means that even a terrorist who beheaded innocent people, but has not yet been finally sentenced, could come forward… They distorted the facts and hijacked the revolution, which rose against theft and looting, to reduce it to purely technical procedures…”

Kaïs Saïed added: “Tunisia has become the country of a million and a half legal experts… I will refrain from citing certain names, people, or practices… But the time will come when the truth will be revealed, revealing the extent of the betrayals and opportunism,” he declared.
