Kais Saied insists on respecting electoral rules in Tunisia

President of the Republic, Kais Saied, welcomed Friday, June 7, 2024, at Carthage Palace o Farouk Bouasker, president of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE). During this meeting, the President recalled respecting the electoral deadlines where the Tunisian people, holders of sovereignty, voiced their will.

Kais Saied underlined that Tunisia respected all significant dates, including the referendum on the draft constitution of July 25, 2022, preceded by a national consultation, as well as the elections of members of the House of People’s Representatives and the elections of members of the National Council of Regions and Districts.

The President insisted on the important role of the ISIE in the strict application of all the provisions relating to the electoral process included in the constitutional text, particularly article 89, and the organic law relating to elections and referendums. He also underscored the importance of putting in place legal sanctions for any violation, regardless of the origin of the breach.

Article 89, to which reference was made, concerns the conditions of nationality, age and civil and political rights of candidates for elections, therefore guaranteeing that only citizens meeting these criteria can present themselves and participate in the process democratic.
