During his meeting with Minister of Commerce Mohamed Bou Said at Carthage presidential palace, the President of the Republic Kais Saied declared that some are attempting to “punish” the Tunisian people. He called on officials operating under the Ministry of Commerce to fight more efficiently against monopoly and speculative practices.
Some responded positively to the calls of the presidency at first and reduced the prices, but sometime after, political parties intervened so that prices of food commodities were again increased, in order to put the people at their knees, however that will never happen, he added.
The President of the Republic asked the speculators to answer positively to the demands of this historic step, warning them that otherwise, the state will resort to sectional measures.
