The Regional Directorate of Trade and Export Development in Kebili inaugurated, on Tuesday morning, a temporary sales point for imported bananas and subsidized sugar at the municipal market on Ennasser Avenue in Kebili city. The initiative, which will last for two days, aims to support citizens’ purchasing power and comes as part of preparations for the upcoming Eid al-Adha, according to Azouz Salah, Regional Director of Trade and Export Development.
In a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency, Salah explained that this initiative was organized in coordination with local and regional authorities, with the objective of supplying the region with basic commodities and revitalizing the Ennasser municipal market. As part of the operation, one ton of subsidized sugar and 1.6 tons of imported bananas were made available to the public over a two-day period, priced at 7,500 millimes per kilogram for bananas and 1,400 millimes per kilogram for sugar. Each individual is allowed a maximum of 2 kilograms of each item.
Salah also pointed out that the regional trade directorate, in collaboration with the local authorities, will work on revitalizing the Ennasser neighborhood municipal market, which is currently underused. This will be achieved by launching a direct-from-producer-to-consumer sales hub, scheduled during the last ten days of each month. The initiative is expected to boost market activity and encourage fruit and vegetable vendors, butchers, and other merchants to return and reestablish their stalls.
