The young prodigy of FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, Lamine Yamal, made astonishing statements in his first television interview after winning Euro 2024 with the Spanish national team. In this interview, Yamal asserted that he couldn’t consume alcohol or get tattoos, favouring a disciplined life, despite his young age and growing popularity.
A talent that remains true to his principles
Lamine Yamal disclosed that he did not touch alcohol, even during the festivities of the European title, preferring “sparkling water” during the festivities with his teammates. As for the idea of getting a tattoo, he firmly noted that he did not like it and that he would never have one.
Although he is still a minor, Yamal explains that he depends greatly on his family to get to his training sessions at Barça. “I do my shopping online, and sometimes I attempt to go out with my little brother, but it’s complicated,” he said, adding that his cousin assists him in getting to his training sessions.
A future mapped out at FC Barcelona
With an estimated market value of €120 million, Yamal hopes never to leave FC Barcelona, saying he desires to become a “legend” of the Catalan club. “I don’t want that amount because it would mean I have to depart,” he said modestly.
The young player also admits the gratitude of the Madrid fans after his performances with La Roja, although Barcelona’s success in the league, he says, causes them some pain.
A Ballon d’Or candidate, but modest
Thanks to his outstanding performance at the Euros, Lamine Yamal has become the youngest player ever nominated for the Ballon d’Or. “I don’t think I have a chance of winning it,” he said modestly. He also talked about the frequent comparisons with Lionel Messi, considering them an honour but wanting to “make his own way” in football.
Yamal also shared a touching anecdote about a picture taken with Messi, saying he felt like the famous Argentinian player had given him “a bit of his magic”.
Strong ties to his family and roots
Despite his growing fame, Lamine Yamal remains profoundly attached to his family, particularly his grandmother, who regularly gives him two essential pieces of advice: “Never wear black” and “Take good care of your father”. After commemorating his European title, he preferred to return to his mother, who continued to ask him to do simple tasks like tidying his bed or wearing sandals.
With a mixture of humility and maturity, Lamine Yamal continues to fascinate football fans around the world, while remaining rooted in his values and his family.
