Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, attorney Lazher Akremi declared that the detention of political activist Khayem Turki was made after the meeting organized last Friday between the Head of State Kais Saïed and the Minister of Justice Leila Jaffel during which he spoke that a certain number of cases stayed in the drawers of the courts without judgment. “The next day, Chief Prosecutor Leila Jaffel ordered the arrest of Khayem Turki around 6 am. His attorneys had no information about his whereabouts during the first hours of his imprisonment. We had to pause for the confirmation of the public prosecutor to know that Turqui was placed in El Gorjani” announced Lakremi.
In the start, Turki’s lawyers were not allowed to meet with their clients, which confirms that the political activist was apprehended by the provisions of the anti-terrorism law which prevents the inmate from contacting his lawyers for the first 48 hours, added our speaker.
He Pointed out that Khayem Turki and Kamel Letaïef were not arrested in the same case, Lakermi explained that the latter was later transferred to the headquarters of the anti-terrorist brigade in Bouchoucha. The defence committee member clarified that Turki could be seized for 15 days according to the preliminary data. “Turki received at his home political opponents including Khalil Zaouia, Ghazi Chaouachi, Sana Ben Achour, Ahmed Nejib Chebbi and Ridha Belhaj. These activists have the right to reject the regime of Kais Saïed which starved the people and destroyed the country,” said Lakremi.
