The Libyan Government of National Unity announced on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the appointment of Mustafa Ali Al-Wahaishi as the new head of the Internal Security Agency, replacing Major General Lotfi Al-Harari.
The government’s media office published a photo on its Facebook page showing Dbeibah meeting with Al-Wahaishi in his office at the Prime Minister’s headquarters.
According to a statement from the media office of the Prime Minister, Al-Wahaishi’s appointment comes as part of a series of “measures to enforce state authority and uphold the rule of law,” as stated in the announcement.
Before this appointment, Colonel Mustafa Al-Wahaishi served as Director of Security at the General Intelligence Service. He was previously kidnapped and held for several days by a group in Tripoli, in connection with investigations into corruption cases.
This appointment is part of a broader set of decisions issued by Prime Minister Dbeibah on Tuesday, including the cancellation of the Directorate of Operations and Judicial Security from the organizational structure of the Judicial Police, the transfer of the Facility and Infrastructure Security Authority to the Ministry of Interior, and the dissolution of the Agency for Combating Illegal Immigration.
