Libya: Misrata Airport Flights Suspended After Private Jet Catches Fire

Air traffic at Misrata International Airport in Libya was suspended on Monday morning after a private jet veered off the runway and caught fire during an emergency landing.

According to Libyan media reports, the aircraft was carrying only three crew members and had no passengers on board. The crew reportedly included a German pilot, along with a Turkish co-pilot and a Turkish flight attendant.

Preliminary information indicates that the aircraft suffered a technical failure involving its engine while it was in the air during the landing phase. The malfunction reportedly prompted the pilot to carry out an emergency landing.

The aircraft subsequently veered off the runway before catching fire shortly afterward. Despite the severity of the incident, no fatalities or injuries were reported among the three crew members.

The incident led to the temporary suspension of flights at Misrata International Airport, as authorities worked to secure the site and assess the condition of the runway.

An investigation is expected to determine the exact cause of the engine malfunction and the circumstances that led to the aircraft leaving the runway.
