Investigators inspected the wreckage and collected air traffic control data and weather reports related to the flight, including conditions at the time the aircraft landed. They also questioned technicians responsible for overseeing the aircraft’s landing.
Twenty-four hours after the accident, the investigator questioned the crew about the circumstances that led the aircraft to veer off the runway. He then confronted the captain and co-pilot with evidence indicating that they had been operating the aircraft while intoxicated.
The investigator also presented evidence that they had breached aviation and general safety rules, putting themselves and the aircraft at clear risk and potentially endangering the airport, its users and the safety of the airspace through which the aircraft had traveled before the crash.
On that basis, the investigator ordered the pretrial detention of the two suspects—the captain and his co-pilot—and continued the investigation into the circumstances of the accident in accordance with applicable national and international rules.
