The Libyan administration of the Ras Jedir border post has denied reports circulating on some social media pages claiming that the crossing had been completely shut down, clarifying instead that a power outage had occurred at the facility.
Officials stated that the General Electricity Company immediately intervened to repair the outage, while a backup generator was put into service to ensure the system’s operation. The crossing, they confirmed, continues to function normally.
Located about thirty kilometers south of the Tunisian town of Ben Guerdane, in the governorate of Médenine, Ras Jedir is the main land border crossing between Tunisia and Libya.
It serves as a vital hub for economic, trade, and human exchanges between the two countries. Every day, thousands of travelers and large volumes of goods pass through, including foodstuffs and consumer products either coming from Libya or bound for its market.
Beyond its economic role, Ras Jedir is also a crucial gateway for the Tunisian diaspora living in Libya. Considered a lifeline, it remains a symbol of continuity in both trade and human ties between the two peoples.
