Maher Chaabane case: Extension of police custody of two former banking executives

The case involving businessman Maher Chaâbane continues to attract considerable attention. The Economic and Financial Judicial Unit of Justice has extended the police custody of two former executives of a public bank by an extra five days.

These decisions are part of an inquiry into granting bank loans totalling 240 million dinars to Maher Chaâbane, currently in custody. Mohamed Zitouna, the Tunis Court of First Instance spokesperson, confirmed this information on Mosaïque FM radio.

The investigation also implicates a former minister who previously served as deputy general director at the same public bank, along with another executive. Both individuals will be brought before the prosecutor in court.

The suspects face accusations of money laundering through the exploitation of their professional and administrative positions, criminal conspiracy, and abuse of power as public officials to obtain undue advantages for themselves or others, thereby causing monetary harm to the administration.
