Last week, several trucks transporting fuel were attacked and destroyed by jihadists affiliated with al-Qaida, resulting in hundreds of thousands of liters of gasoline going up in smoke.
In response to this situation, Malian authorities have decided to deploy measures to “secure” the upcoming month of Ramadan.
The Malian Ministry of Defense announced the arrival of new military equipment to bolster the army’s efforts against the jihadist offensive.
Authorities have pledged to stockpile the necessary fuel and ensure its protection, making it available to the population. Central to this operation is General Famouké Camara, who is leading “Operation Fuga Kène,” which means “clearance” in the local Bambara language.
A security source in Bamako stated: “We will see results on the ground quickly. The jihadist blockade will be contained,” in order to “win the fuel war.”
