Manouba : Speed Bumps Reconfigured and Tender Launched to Enhance Road Safety

The Regional Directorate of Equipment in Manouba has begun work to address the locations of speed bumps that were removed last September, with the aim of facilitating the movement of the new Chinese buses, ensuring smoother traffic flow, and strengthening road safety across the numbered road network.

According to Najla Ben Khlifa, Regional Director of Equipment in Manouba, speaking to the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) news agency, this intervention represents a preparatory phase ahead of the reinstallation of speed bumps that comply with technical standards and are adapted to the new bus fleet.

These works will be carried out in areas identified by the Regional Road Safety Committee of the Manouba governorate, in accordance with the applicable legislation, technical specifications, and actual needs.

She explained that a call for tenders has been launched for the reinstallation of the speed bumps, following the identification of authorized devices and the review of irregular speed bumps within the Technical Road Safety Committee, and after submission to local and regional authorities. This process is pending the completion of the necessary legal procedures required for awarding the contract.

Ben Khlifa added that an urgent intervention was carried out on National Road No. 5, at kilometer point 18, as well as in the Ennassr district of Mornaguia, with the installation of two speed bumps, given the pressing need along this heavily trafficked axis, which has witnessed several road accidents.

In the same context, she noted that due to the condition of National Road No. 7, particularly the section linking the El Habibia intersection near Oued Chafrou in El Jadida to the locality of Essaïda in Oued Ellil—also characterized by heavy traffic—a first phase will involve widening this section over a distance of 1.5 kilometers.

The project also includes strengthening horizontal and vertical road signage through the renewal of road markings and the installation of traffic signs in line with approved standards.

In addition, it предусматриes the reinforcement of safety features, notably protective guardrails, as well as the improvement and modernization of the public lighting network to ensure better visibility for road users, especially at night. These measures aim to reduce accident risks and improve overall traffic conditions.

Finally, the Regional Director indicated that the project, with an estimated cost of 9 million dinars, has reached the stage of contract finalization with the company tasked with carrying out the works, which are scheduled to span a contractual period of 12 months.
