Mecca: It will be up to 72°C on surfaces exposed to sun

The Saudi Ministry of Health today, Thursday, June 13, 2024, cautioned pilgrims of the dangers of exposure to high surface temperatures in the Holy Sites, which attain 72 degrees Celsius in some mountainous areas.

The Ministry of Health in a statement alerted pilgrims that lengthy exposure to the sun poses a significant risk to their health, remarking that this year’s 1445 Hajj season is accompanied by high temperatures in La Mecca, which constitutes the greatest difficulty encountered by the Ministry of Health.

The ministry called on pilgrims to always use parasols to avoid direct exposure to the sun, to drink adequate water throughout the day, even if they are not thirsty, and to respect all instructions and health advice, and to avoid going out and being exposed to the sun, or walking on open surfaces during peak hours, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
