Medenine in Shock After Bodies of Two Missing Men Found, Rights Group Points to Criminal Execution

The governorate of Medenine is reeling from a major shock after the bodies of two men aged 35 and 37 were discovered in a remote mountainous area, weeks after they were reported missing on November 2.

According to Mustapha Abdelkebir, president of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, the circumstances surrounding the crime strongly suggest a criminal execution. He stated that the two victims were found with their hands bound and bearing clear signs of severe violence, and were buried in a location more than 100 kilometers away from their place of residence, indicating a high level of planning and premeditation.

Abdelkebir added that the families were able to identify the bodies, but that the handover will be delayed pending the results of DNA tests. Samples have been collected from relatives to formally confirm the identities before the bodies can be released.

He also called for the strengthening and modernization of the security system to better combat crime, warning of the growing frequency and brutality of violent crimes in Tunisia.

For his part, Tawhami Bssissa, spokesperson for the Court of First Instance in Medenine, confirmed that the public prosecutor has ordered the opening of an investigation on charges of premeditated murder. A judge of instruction has been assigned to the case to determine responsibilities and uncover the full circumstances of the crime.

The two bodies were transferred to forensic medicine to establish the exact causes of death and complete all legal procedures before being returned to their families.

This disturbing case has reignited public debate over public security and the fight against organized and violent crime in Tunisia, amid rising concerns about citizen safety.
