As it has every December since 1927, TIME magazine’s traditional special issue has named its Person of the Year, featuring the leading figures of the generative AI revolution on its cover.
These include the eight “architects of artificial intelligence” featured in the image: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta; Lisa Su, CEO of AMD; Elon Musk, CEO of xAI; Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia; Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google’s AI division; DeepMind; Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; and Stanford University expert Fei-Fei Li.
Highlighting the weight and influence of individuals on the international stage, the list of honorees ranges from Adolf Hitler in 1938 to pop superstar Taylor Swift in 2023, then Donald Trump on the cover in 2024. This year, the magazine honors artificial intelligence, placing humans above machines, while awaiting the revolutions of the coming years.
For Time editors, AI is definitely dominating the news this year, 2025, in terms of massive energy consumption by AI servers, disappearing jobs, disinformation, etc.
