Argentine star Lionel Messi led his Inter Miami side to a resounding 4-1 victory over CF Montréal in a match held at Saputo Stadium, part of the 19th round of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.
The game featured an exceptional and rare moment in Messi’s illustrious career, as he committed an uncharacteristic error that directly led to a goal for the opposing team.
Indeed, Messi misplayed a pass that was intercepted by Prince Osei Owusu, who capitalized to open the scoring for Montréal just two minutes into the match.
However, Messi wasted no time in making amends. He quickly got his team back on track by providing the assist for Tadeo Allende’s equalizer in the 33rd minute, before netting the second goal himself in the 40th.
In the second half, Telasco Segovia extended Inter Miami’s lead with a third goal in the 60th minute, and captain Messi capped off the night with a brilliant solo effort just two minutes later.
With this win, Inter Miami climbs to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 32 points, while Montréal remains at the bottom of the table.
