The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, along with Tunisians Abroad, said that the Tunisian Embassy in South Africa intervened last night, in coordination with local security authorities, to guarantee the safe exit of the Esperance Sportive de Tunis fans from Loftus Versfeld Stadium without harm and under protection.

The ministry confirmed in its statement that the embassy coordinated with the South African side to provide ambulances for injured fans and offer first aid and necessary medical care.

Concerning the fans who were theft victims, the ministry said: “The Tunisian embassy will issue travel permits for the fans who lost their passports and were robbed.”

It is worth noting that Esperance lost to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 1-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
