Modern slavery surges: 50 million lives shattered, profits exceeding $236 billion

    As the world marks the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery this Tuesday, the UN Secretary-General once again urged the global community to eradicate all contemporary forms of human exploitation.

    Despite international efforts, 50 million people are still trapped in conditions akin to modern slavery — a system that generates over $236 billion in annual profits for criminal networks and unscrupulous employers who exploit vulnerable individuals.
